Specialist Legal Services

As a boutique Law Firm, we offer expertise only in the specific legal areas where our experience can add value to you and your business.

Our expertise is in the areas of law associated with the owning, running and exiting of legal and other professional partnerships (including LLPs and company structures for professional service businesses) and entrepreneurial businesses.

Our core services are as follows:

Partnerships/LLPs:

For law firms, doctors and other professionals, getting the right structure within the partnership is crucial to the effective management and operation of your business. Whether setting up, investing into an established firm or moving to a new role, we offer experience and expertise to support you.

We advise law firms, GP practices, private equity, accountants and entrepreneurs on all aspects of partnership law. Why? We provide solutions to the tricky questions and have the experience of having been through every aspect many times.

Professional Regulation:

Any professional being investigated by their regulator, whether that be the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW) or the General Medical Council (GMC) or any of the other healthcare regulators finds the process and experience daunting. Experience counts, and our small team advises on this daily.

Our expertise includes defending contested cases successfully across a range of regulators.

Employment Law:

Businesses need commercially sensitive advice on managing professionals, senior level employees and directors. We can help.

Whether the focus is on the right terms for a contract, managing a disciplinary situation or performance issue or managing the reputation and commercial risks around dismissal and Employment Tribunals, we can guide you step by step through the maze that is employment law.

Company & Commercial:

Every business needs contracts drafting and advice on the terms which are appropriate. We are regularly consulted by other law firms seeking to understand what they should and should not be agreeing to, whether that is commercially or because of their professional obligations. Our non-lawyer clients benefit from knowing their advisers advise other law firms.

Merger & Acquisition:

We advise on the buying, selling and merger of law firms, GP practices and service businesses.

If you are contemplating a merger or acquisition opportunity we can help you assess the opportunity and manage the project throughout.

Our experience goes beyond the legal documentation and includes due diligence and advising on best way to achieve your aims. We have advised individuals, partnerships and private equity in the past, so whatever your position we can help.

ADR:

Mediation, Arbitration, Early Neutral Evaluation, Adjudication, Expert Determination – we have been involved in disputes resolved using all these methods and have experience of being a mediator, arbitrator and giving an opinion as a as part of Early Neutral Evaluation.

If your dispute needs resolving quickly we can help: as a professional appointed to help resolve things or as an adviser when ADR is being used.

Special Projects and Consultancy:

From time to time every management team needs some support and perhaps someone at arms length to guide them and their firms to a successful conclusion. Recent examples include:

– SRA Handbook [2019]: Paul Bennett has written a book on this for Law Brief Publishing and spoken to conferences, COLPs and partners about the practical impact of the new regime.

– GDPR: Planning for data use after May 2018, we worked with clients from 2016 onwards to ensure they were ready. Need help still? We can assist.

– Brexit: forget the political fallout, how to prepare for the economic impact and how to evolve your business? We can guide you on the decisions you have to make: so you make them with more confidence. Our management training and experience allows us to step back and challenge ideas effectively so you make the right decisions for your business.
