Legal Futures Regulatory and Compliance Conference 2019

Jun 13, 2019

Partner Paul Bennett was delighted to be asked to speak at the leading legal publisher Legal Futures Regulatory and Compliance Conference on the 6th June 2019 in London.

Paul spoke about the challenges for law firm leaders and individual professions obligations arising linked to their own mental health and wellbeing. If your firm faces an SRA Investigation or you face proceedings before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT) we can help.

On the 12th June, Legal Futures picked up the theme of Paul’s presentation and this piece was published. Tens of thousands of solicitors and legal professionals in the UK will have seen it.

As the article notes the President of the SDT endorsed Paul’s comments on the need for a Fitness to Practise (FtP) regime in law as exists in the healthcare professions. The proposal was also endorsed by a leading QC speaking after Paul who then went on to Twitter to share the argument and commend it.

Paul Bennett commented “It is great to start a debate amongst law firm leaders and my peers in the disciplinary world. We have helped save doctors and healthcare professionals over the years within a FtP regime and mental or physical health should not in 2019 be a barrier to a profession provided the heath impact is well managed. The debate is now alive with the SDT supporting the principle.”
